306: Haolonggood (好龙谷) Diabloceratops Review
The first ceratopsian in the 2024 release lineup!
Another wonderful ceratopsian from Haolonggood. What a wonderful blend of detail, texture and accuracy, not to mention price! HLG has given us yet another worthy dinosaur model, worthy of us, and worthy of the dinosaur it depicts.

305: Haolonggood (好龙谷) Stegosaurus 𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴 Review
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.19 часов назад
Just when it seemed difficult for HLG to deliver another herbivore to delight us as much as some of the recent ones, along comes this Stegosaurus… but not the usual 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘴! This one is modelled on the larger and less offered 𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴. Once again we have another contribution to the great variety of dinosaurs we have received in the last two years. HLG has really been a constant source of delig...
P304: PNSO Tyrannotitan (Mateo 魁纣龙玛特奥 Review)
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.28 дней назад
Here’s almost a blast from the past. Remember back when PNSO gave us a deluge of carcharodontosaurids and tyrannosaurids in an endless stream? I’d always thought they would produce Tyrannotitan for sure, but they didn’t. Now comes this one, in the same aesthetic, including the lack of lips, and it may as well have been one that was originally to be released then. The paint application is shocki...
303: Haolonggood (好龙谷) Maiasaura Review (2024)
Просмотров 2 тыс.Месяц назад
Finally… a saurolophine hadrosaur! Maiasaura is one I’ve known for a long time, but didn’t have a single model of because I stupidly gave my Carnegie away. This one by Haolonggood is a beautiful piece of work. Save for one obvious inaccuracy, and being a little small in size, this one is as close to the perfect hadrosaur HLG has rendered! #Haolonggood #DinosDragons #Maiasaura #hadrosaurs #hadro...

Finally! After an almost 2 year hiatus, I’m continuing with the Dungeons and Dragons Icons of the Realm Adult Dragon line from Wizkids! I’ve reviewed the Red, Black, and Blue adult dragons. PNSO seems to have woken up from its long break, and shrugged off the ennui of incessant same clade representatives. We had the hadrosaur Edmontosaurus, the sauropodomorph Lufengosaurus, and now comes the stegosaur Wuerhosaurus. A cute stumpy little fellow who is highly detailed and smoothly painted, this is a nice little addition to anyone’s collection of stegosaurs! #PNSO #DinosDragons #Wuerh...

Просмотров 4,5 тыс.2 месяца назад
What can I say? HLG does it again, and this time they do the iconic Chinese sauropod proud. This is that impressive Mamenchisaurus the size it should have been done, but Haolonggood chose to do it first. The so-called 素 version is anything but! There is nothing plain about this, and sports some of the best paint apps I have ever seen on a sauropod. No regrets whatsoever getting this brown one! ...

Haolongood once again comes up with another dinosaur that has been neglected for far too long. Euoplocephalus was my favourite ankylosaur growing up, and it still. Having limited resources I can get only a handful of models and actually have a soft spot for theropods. But I also want to have a collection where I can show atleast one from each famous group of dinosaurs. And for hadrosaurs, this beautiful model is definitely going to be one and just bought it. Thanks for the review, it helped me choose over many other models.

I noticed you also went for the blue haolonggood Mamenchisaurus as well 😊 blue might be the new green for choice. 👍 it's true if the paint job is bad, then it requires a new paint over for sure! Since I have a mini herd of Stegosaurus from Nanmu , Pnso, and Haolonggood, the colors have to closely match 😅 I did the same coloration with my Pnso's first Mamenchisaurus and second model Erma to match the Haolonggood Green version and soon to the Linghu Art Studio model, which will be arriving soon. I am pleased to say I managed to find the correct color tones to tie all models together. The perfect family of Mamenchisaurus 😊

Kinda late but finally watched this, and it's confirmed my musings about Eofauna's Sue - it's a terrific model. The jaw articulation and lip seal/engineering is what's especially impressive to me. Plus it looks really good next to Wilson! For some reason Cameron is a lot bulkier than this model, despite being also based off Sue, so the size disparity may be a bit too much for spme. Now let's see who else comes up with a flagship lipped T.rex next...

I'm so impressed with the quality of the paint scheme and its application on my dark version. (I don't have the yellow/brown yet.) The painting on the head reminds me of some of the custom work Ben Van Steenberge has done for me - it really is that good. Positively jewel like. And like you, DinosDragons, I can't wait to see the remainder of Haolonggood's promised ceratopsians. Thanks for the rundown on epoccipitals being "out" - I found that so incredibly difficult to say without getting my tongue in a muddle and stumbling over it that I'm distinctly relieved by epossifications being the appropriate term now - much easier to pronounce!

The latest studies show that pliosaurs' flippers were used for flying through the water like penguins. The eddy from the front flipper increased the efficiency of the back flipper just as the first goose flying in a V-formation eased the passage of the goose next in line.

Nice positive and informative review as always. What I like about this Haolonggood Stegosaurus ungulatus is that it matches very well with the PNSO Stegosaurus stenops in terms of size. And the entire question of size of the model of an extinct animal is a difficult question. First, different researchers come to different maximum size estimates based on different lines of argument. Second, we need to ask the questions how representative the size of fossils of a species of an extinct animal would be for the size range of adult individuals that animal. Over the course of millions of year there lived probably millions of stegosaurs on Earth and we have maybe 100 or so complete fossils. How likely is it that these 100 fossils cover the size range of that species? I would say not very likely. Therefore, I like the approach that the paleontology blogger the Vividen has taken where he used both extinct and living species (including large mammals) with good coverage and calculated the ratio between the largest adult individual and the average size of adult individuals. With that ratio he would then estimate the maximum size of other species. This is still an inaccurate approach with a large error margin, but much better than just assuming that the maximum and minimum sizes of fossils would represent the maximum and minimum of the entire population that ever lived. Population size dynamics by the way is also affected by environmental factors like climate and food availability. Which may be negatively correlated with preservation potential of fossils. I give you and example. In a warm, humid and rainy climate (like rainy forest) with abundant vegetation and food sources, herbivores can grow to the maximum size that is biologically possible. But the preservation potential of fossils in such an environment would be low. Conversely, in a dry and less vegetated environment (arid plains or even desert) the availability of food may limit growth, but in such an environment the potential for fossil preservation is much higher. So what we see in the fossil record would be biased towards the preserved fossils from the food limited environment.

Oh no can't believe the Gastonia is lost 😮 seems the smaller packages end up missing. The Gastonia models is a must have as its well done on both colors. The Diabloceratops is out now from Haolonggood and I hope this doesn't go the same way as the packaging is small again. I didn't quite like the pinkish baby and changed it to match the brown mother. In all another well done piece from Haolonggood which keeps giving us non stop models.😊

The green was the obvious choice for me as the other two options were just too outlandish. Although I'm able to change the color as and when I wish, I usually try not to with mess with these models. It was as large as the Pike model from Nanmu and still bigger than the Pnso Biber. Altogether a nice herd of Stegosaurus 😊

I suppose it is a lot more worthwhile repainting a dinosaur with a bad paint application than one that is already really good, but unfortunately in different colours! The thing is, the longer I have these, the blue actually looks more green than the green, and so closer to my preferred traditional red on green. I think that is why I ended up preferring the 'blue'!

I was so excited seeing that as a kid because I thought I was really learning alot about the different unique dinosaurs that few people did. So there was a bit of pride for me. The disappointment I felt when I first learn the truth is eclipsed only by my disappointment that Agustinia was invalid. 😭

I recently started buying HLG dinosaurs just because PNSO don't make 1:35 suropods. I got the HLG alamosaurus, manmenchiosaurus and the stego ungulatus. The stego has better form than the PNSO 2021 stego, but most newer PNSO figure has better color and texturing. HLG for me is a hit and miss. While I appreciate that they make the best mass produced 1:35 sauropods, I still don't like their head sculpt (too toy/cartoon-like) and paint application. My alamosaurus is from a second batch which have defective paint on one side that makes the skin looks like having cracks, while the manmechiosaurus has very good body form and better paint, sadly it looks like a paint job from a paint printer that is quite widely used now for various products. There are straight lines on the body that i can detect which looks suspiciously like a printer work. Compare this to newer PNSO dinos like the edmontosaurus and the tyranotitan, HLG still lags in quality. These new PNSO figures are looking like a taxidermized dinosaurs rather than a toy.

Nice review! Thanks for all the great shots and comparisons! I've ordered the same two colors. They should arrive next week. Can't wait! Now, of the comparisons you so abundantly provided, I just have to point out the one with the PNSO Wuerhosaurus. To start, I must say I love PNSO as well. Although, the problem I have with PNSO is I feel they're figures are often overpriced. This Wuerhosaurus is a perfect example of this. The much smaller Wuerhosaurus is generally selling for $35, while the much larger Haolonggood Stegosaurus is generally selling for $30. I also think the Haolonggood figure is overall a better looking figure than the PNSO Wuerhosaurus. In the end, I just hope Haolonggood can keep giving us these wonderful figures at these incredibly fair prices, and PNSO will consider coming down a bit. 🤞😉

I know a friend of a friend of PNSO founder. I am also in the toy industry. I can tell you that PNSO price is not overpriced. Their toys are still hand-painted by the best in the industry. In fact, they are complaining that their company is not making money and losing money. Its either that their operation is not efficient or that their production cost is too high.

@MacDinoland You are most welcome! I think you will find that in hand, yours will look even better than what I could capture on video. There are many subtleties the dynamic range of my camera just can't capture, and best appreciated in person. Be prepared to very happy with them! Regarding the price, a lot has to do with the shipping and other middle man charges you get slapped with. In China, we are paying PNSO Wuerhosaurus ¥120 = USD16.50 Haolonggood Wuerhosaurus ¥69 = USD9.50 You can see it's cheaper still to buy HLG in China, being double the price, but given the obvious difference in quality of sculpt it's ok. I think you can agree that paying USD16.50 for the PNSO is worth it, HLG is super cheap (current quality sculpting I mean), and the extras you are slapped on with is disgusting. For you guys it's really monstrous what you have to pay extra. I think the real mystery is, _how the devil is HLG able to charge so little still?_ That's why for me I made it a little mission of mine to review these so that Western viewers might have some input with which to make what is an incredible monetary investment.

@@DinosDragons Just got them! And yes, I do love them!! I feel Haolonggood figures are often times even better in-hand! I can't believe the prices of the Wuerhosaurus figures in China! WOW! $16.50 for the PNSO! Like I said, over here in the States it's $35!! I for one am truly grateful for your detailed reviews. It does help me in my decisions. Thanks again!

Great review as always! Really impressive figure; equal to if not exceeding the PNSO, Can't wait for their Camarasaurus to add to the Morrison Fm fauna.

For sure! HLG's standards are now so high, and yet keeping prices so affordable even for the West, that I really believe that in sum, they surpass PNSO, as much as I love and support PNSO as you all know! 😁

Something about a green Stegosaurus with red dorsal plates just feels right, the coloration is really nice and natural for this one.

I forgot to mention, that is why I actually prefer the blue! In most lighting it seems to me to be more blue green than blue, and the plates are closer to red. So that fulfils my preference for red on green for Stegosaurus for me!

poses besides walking forwards would make a big difference to their models! makes them all look the same unfortunately! remember Toyway WWD ...!

      @DinosDragons 3 дня назад

I am unfamiliar with Toyway. But I think that a walking, near neutral pose pleases the most collectors. I liked some other poses, but they can be a minus factor for many collectors. Even the Wilson T Rex looks a lot better from one side than the other. I believe that's why a more conservative pose, that is still active in feel, is still the safest bet for many companies.

So glad they went back and fixed the thagomizer position! Originally they sculpted them too far up the tail.

Oh I didn't notice the earlier teases. From what you say, I'm glad they changed then! Stegosaurus really is one of those dinosaurs without enough material that sculptors have less excuse to get wrong. Not to mention, enough material that will get more dissatisfied customers if you mess up! I mean, this is not the same order of mistake that is more palatable than, say, Maiasaura's hornlets!

I wonder did stegosaurus ungulatus live at the same time as stenops? I ask everywhere but nobody gives me any answer lol Anyway this figure is another wonderful offering by haolonggood

I prefer the green over the blue for sure. I ordered the fruity looking one tho.

The strange thing is, after having it inhand, I actually preferred the blue simply because it seems closer to the traditional green than the green actualy is! But when you receive yours in hand, I think you'll love whatever you get. HLG's paint application is _that_ good!
